My absolute favorite brewery on the eastern shore! They create my favorite styles of Belgians and Wheats. Their beer is always consistent and clean tasting.
I guess I am mostly partial to this brewery due to their beach theme since I grew up by the beach. Talk about a niche brewery that sticks to their theme!
This brewery started in 2012 and the building used to be owned by Evolution Brewing, which was the first and only brewery on the shore.
3rd Wave Brewing is a woman-owned brewery and the only one in the tri-state area. Two friends who met each other in Ocean City, Maryland twenty some years ago who shared a passion for the beach, surfing, and good beer!
They purchased the brewery from Evolution brewing with their original 10 barrel brewhouse and bottling equipment. Some like to call them the little sister of EVO because both breweries have looked out for one another which is what the brewing community should be all about!
The Atmosphere of 3rd Wave Brewing
There is a strong presence of surfing life inside the tap room. Everything is beachy with great beautiful surfboards displayed everywhere! There is always a surfing video playing along with other sports.
They have a full tasting bar with 14 beers on tap to try. Have a flight or a pint and I am sure you will one find one or two you like.
They have an outside area with corn hole boards to play and various food trucks make an appearance on the weekends. You can bring your own food or have some delivered, but if you forgot or don’t want to order any food there are plenty of Goldfish crackers to snack on!
It is a dog-friendly brewery and gives tours on Saturdays. Delmar, DE isn’t the most attractive destination but 3rd Wave Brewing has made it a town to visit.
3rd Wave’s Signature Brews
Home of the SandStorm Belgian Tripel which is my personal go-to favorite beer! It is an American style Belgian Tripel and is the most smooth tasting and tricky beer I have ever come across. Drinking at 9% alcohol but does not go down boozy at all!
SandStorm is their #1 year-round seller but they also have a very popular seasonal called SunSet Peach Wheat which is made with 200 pounds of fresh peaches and is super refreshing!
Another year-round seller is their Shorebreak Pale Ale. Single hopped American Pale Ale that is light and session-able. It pairs great with seafood and can be drunk on the beach or boat all day!
If you are too far from this 3rd Wave and your mouth is watering for the SandStorm Belgian Tripel you can actually try them through the Craft Beer Club which they joined last year. They wanted people from everywhere to be able to try their beer because it can be hard to get distribution in a lot of states.
